Al urjoonul qadeem of Jumada al-Thania 1441: Feb 23 & Feb 22, 2020

New Crescent Moon of Rajab 1441:

The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on February 23, 2020 (Sunday) at 15:32 UT. On that day, the moon can not be seen anywhere by even binoculars. On February 24, the moon can be seen with difficulty in India, Middle East, and parts of Africa. It can be easily seen in parts of Africa, and Americas. On February 25 it can be easily seen in the rest of the world (See visibility curves).

The earliest sighting of the new crescent of Rajab is reported from Mauritius on February 24.

February 24, 2020 (Monday):

  • Australia:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Imam Abul Qasim Rizvi, Imam Juma Melbourne reported: Crescent of the month of Rajab 1441 AH has not been sighted anywhere in Australia. InshaAllah Tuesday 25th February 2020 will be the 30th Jamadiul Aakhar 1441 AH. In�Sha�Allah Wednesday 26th February 2020 will be the 1st Rajab Al Murajjab 1441 AH.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, President of Qubaa association of Western Sydney, NSW reported: Today (Monday) 24th of February 2020, the Hilal of Rajab 1441 has not been sighted anywhere in Australia. Therefore, the month of Rajab 1441 will begin from Wednesday, 26th of February 2020.

    3. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Falcon Rajaj, from Sydney, NSW reported: In Sydney it is partially clouded and I tried to watch the moon. I was unable to see the moon till 8:15 PM. Horizon is covered with clouds.

    4. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Moussa Khalife from Sydney, NSW reported: Today is Monday 24th of February 2020 we didn�t see the moon in Sydney Australia so tomorrow Tuesday is the last day of jamada al Thania 1441H.

  • Barbados:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Mohammed Patel from Bridgetown reported: On Monday 24th February 2020, the crescent moon was SEEN. Conditions were hazy. Crescent orientation: 4 O'clock to 8 O'clock. Therefore we had 29 days of Jamada al Thania. The first day of Rajab will be on Tuesday, 25th of February.

  • Chile:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Muhammad Sohail from Coquimbo reported: In the city of Coquimbo, Chile on 24/02/2020 I have seen the new moon of the month of Rajab at almost at 20:45 after magrib prayer. The sky was quite clear.

  • Egypt:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Hisham M. Hamed from Cairo reported: Tonight, Mon. 24th of Feb, I attempted to observe the Hilal of Rajab, from Giza (30.0�N, 31.2�E), after Maghrib prayers. Apparent sunset was at 17:50. It had been raining most of the afternoon, since 14:50. The entire sky was shrouded by clouds. In any case, given the prevalent atmospheric conditions (T = 13�C, P=1016mB, and RH = 79%), the Crescent of width 17.8 arc seconds was 3.7 magnitudes/arcsecond2 below the threshold of visibility.

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Md Ohidullah from Birbhum, West Bengal reported: The Crescent moon of Jumada al-?Akhirah 1441 AH has not been sighted anywhere in Birbhum of West Bengal, or any other State of India on Monday 24th February 2020.

    2. Seen: MCW member Mr Rasheed Usman, Kozhikode, Kerala reported: Please be informed that the Hilal of Rajab was sighted by one person at Kapad Beach Kozhikode Kerala. The witness with him however couldn't see it. Qaziz need two witnesses from the State and searching for the same.

  • Indonesia:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr AR Sugeng Riyadi from Rowasiya Observatory reported: The new crescent of Rajab 1441 was not seen on Monday, February 24, 2020 from my location at Rowasiya Observatory in Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java. The sky was very hazy and cloudy.

    2. Seen: MCW member Mr AR Sugeng Riyadi also reported: The moon was sighted from Barru, South of Sulawesi by MkG Team and also from Medan, North of Sumatera by OIF UmSu Team. The 1st of Rajab 1441 in Indonesia started on Tuesday, Feb 25, 2020.

  • Mauritius:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Nissar Ahmad Ramtoola from Port Louis reported: Alhamdulillah New Moon of Rajab 1441 has been sighted tonight Monday 24 February 2020 at several localities in Mauritius . Hence Tuesday 25 February will be 1st day of Rajab1441. Lailatul Mairaj will be celebrated Insha Allah on Saturday night 21 March 2020. First Reported visibility was at 7.00pm. Sky clear with some patches of clouds. Sunset was at 6.41pm and Moonset was at 7.26pm

  • Morocco:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Zakaria Guelzim from Rabat reported: This is to inform you that today Monday February 24th, I was not able to sight the hilal of Rajab 1441 from Rabat due to clouds in the sunset direction. From the other side , I was able to sight it using a telescope equipped with a CCD camera, installed in the observatory of the Alakhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco and controlled remotely from the cities of Tangier (Aziz Kaeouach) and Rabat (Zakaria Guelzim). see attached picture.
      However, The hilal was seen with naked eyes in other cities in Morocco. The ministry of Islamic affairs announced officially, that Rajab will start on Tuesday 25-February 2020.

  • New Zealand:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Abid Jafery from Auckland reported: Wed 26 Feb 2020 will be 1st Rajab 1441 Hijri InshAllah due to no reported sightings from anywhere in NZ or Fiji on Mon 24 Feb 2020 (29 Jamada as- Thani).

  • Nigeria:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Oyeyemi Oyewo, Ilorin, Kwara State reported: I started looking for the rajab crescent today 24th/02/2020 at around 6:45pm Nigeria local time till 7:08 pm. I can't see it, despite the weather clearity. The head of Nigeria supreme council for islamic affairs had declared 25/02/2020 as 1st Rojab 2020.

  • South Africa:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Rashid Motala from Durban reported: n the evening of Monday 24 February 2020, the Hilaal WAS sighted in South Africa. Therefore Rajab 1441 will commence on Tuesday, 25 February 2020 in South Africa.

  • Tanzania:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Hamza Rijal from Tiny Island of Zanzibar reported: For Rajab 1441AH , Hilal was not sighted in tiny Island of Zanzibar on the evening of 24th February 2020, the condition was hazy all over the island, therefore the official first day of Rajab will correspond with Wednesday 26 February, 2020.

  • Trinidad and Tobago:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Umar Abdullah from Bon Accord, Tobago reported: The crescent moon to commence the month of Rajab 1441 AH was looked for after the sunset of Monday 24th February 2019. Reports from all committees locally and regional confirm that the moon was SIGHTED. Location: lat: 10 35 long: 61 21; Time of Sunset: 18:15; Time of the first appearance of the crescent: 18:38; Pressure: 1013.1 mb; Temperature: 26 �C; Relative humidity: 82%.
      The month of Jumaadal Aakhirah 1441 AH has completed 29 days. Therefore the 1st night of Rajab 1441 AH would be the night of Monday 24th February 2019 and the first day of Rajab 1441 AH would be tomorrow Tuesday 25th February 2019.

  • UK:


    1. Not Seen: Wifaqul Ulama Administrator of Britain reported: Due to overcast and cloudy conditions, the Hilaal for Rajab 1441 was not sighted anywhere in United Kingdom.

    2. Seen: Wifaqul Ulama Administrator also reported: However, the Hilaal for Rajab 1441 was sighted in France, Morocco and South Africa. Wifaqul Ulama Shura have therefore decided that the month of Rajab 1441 has begun on the evening of February 24, 2020.

  • USA:


    1. Seen: Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announced: The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Tuesday, February 25th, 2020 will be the first day of the month of Rajab, 1441 A.H. for the entire region of North America. This determination is based on the fact that there were verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Monday, February 24th, 2020 from Miami and Orlando, Florida.

  • Zambia:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Moulana Imtiyaz Misbahi, Imam Of Masjid Noor-e-Mohammedi from Lusaka reported: Moulana Imtiyaz Misbahi Imam of Masjid Noor-e-Muhammadi Lusaka reported: Today, Fabruary 24, moon was not sighted in Lusaka, Zambia.

February 25, 2020 (Tuesday):

  • Pakistan:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Shoaib Saleem from Tarbela Dam reported: Today on 25th Feb 2020, the Hilal of Rajab has been sighted by me at my local place Tarbela Dam. 26th Feb 2020 will 1st Rajab 1441. Yesterday on 24th Feb 2020 the moon of Rajab was not sighted. The Central Rouit-e-Hilal committee of Pakistan also announced not sighting of moon any where in Pakistan, Rajab will commence from 26th Feb.

  • UK:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Mohammad Ramtoola from Preston reported: Today, February 225, 2020, the moon wa sighted in Preston, UK at 17:59.
