  • New Crescent Moon of Rabi-at-Thani 1445:
    The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on October 14, 2023 (Saturday) at 17:55 UT.
    On that day, the moon can not be seen any where. On October 15, the moon can be seen in Southern Africa with dificulty, but can be seen easily in South America. On October 16, it is visible in the whole world (See visibility curves). /span>

    The earliest reported sighting of the new crescent was on October 15, 2023 (Sunday) from Grenada (Caribbean Islands).

    October 15, 2023 (Sunday):

    • Albania:


      1. Not Seen: MCW member Ebu Xhunejd (Ledjo Hyka) from Tirana reported: We couldn't sight the new moon, so 17 October is the first of Rabiul Akhir.

    • Australia:


      1. Not Seen: MCW member Abul Qasim Rizvi, Imam Juma Melbourne reported: Today (Sunday) 15th of October 2023, the Hilal of Rabi ul Thaani 1445 has not been sighted anywhere in Australia. Therefore, the month of Rabi ul Thaani will begin from Tuesday, 17th of October 2023.

      2. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, President of Qubaa association of Western Sydney, NSW reported: Moon has not been sighted in Eastern Australia. Therefore 16th October 2023 will be 30th Rabi ul Awwal 1445 Hijri 1st Rabi ul Thani 1445 Hijri will be on Tuesday 17th October 2023.

      1. Seen: MCW member Farid Patel from Grenada (Caribbean Islands) reported: The moon for beginning of Rabi uth Thani, 1445AH was sighted in Grenada (Caribbean Islands) on October 15, 2023 . Therefore the 1st of Rabi uth Thaani 1445AH will be on Monday October 16th 2022.

    • Indonesia:


      1. Not Seen: MCW member AR Sugeng Riyadi from Rowasiya Observatory reported: The new crescent of Rabiul Akhir 1445 AH was not sighted on Sunday, 15 of October 2023 from Assalaam Observatory, at PPMI Assalaam Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia. The west sky was rather hazy.

      1. Not Seen: MCW member Rashid Motala from Durban reported: On the evening of Sunday 15 October 2023, the Hilaal was NOT sighted in South Africa. Therefore Rabi-ul-Aakhir 1445 will commence on Tuesday, 17 October 2023 in South Africa.

      2. Not Seen: MCW member Keeka, Mohamed Iqbal, Pretoria reported: The moon marking the start of the month of Rabi-ul-Aakhir 1445 was NOT sighted in South Africa this evening, Sunday 15 October 2023. Therefore, the month of Rabi-ul-Aakhir will commence after Maghrib on Monday, 16 October 2023.

    • USA:


      1. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg, VA reported: This evening (Sunday, October15, 2023), the crescent moon was not sighted in Blacksburg, VA . I was at my sighting location by 6:43 pm EDT (sunset: 6:40 pm). By that time the crescent was perhaps under clouds hugging the horizon or very close to it. The western horizon was mostly cloudy. Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I scanned the area where the moon was expected to be according to the Stellarium software. I stayed there in hopes of potential clearings till moonset (moonset: 7:07 pm). My daytime sighting in early afternoon also was not successful.

      2. Not Seen: Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announced: The Moon-sighting Sub-committee wishes to inform the community that there was no sighting of the new crescent on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Therefore upon completion of 30 Days of Mahe Rabi-ul-Awwal, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2023 is established as the 1st Day of Mahe Rabi-ul-Aakher, 1445 AH.

      1. Seen: MCW member AR Sugeng Riyadi from Rowasiya Observatory Central Java Indonesia reported: The new crescent of Rabiul Akhir 1445 AH was seen on Monday: October 16, 2023 from Rowasiya Observatory at Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia.

    • Qatar:


      1. Seen: Mr Habiburhman Yunus from Alkhor reported: The Hilal for the month of Rabi Al-Thani was sighted today 16th October 2023 here in Alkhor Qatar.

    • USA:


      1. Seen: MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: Earlier today (Monday, October 16, 2023), using a pair of binoculars (7X50) I sighted the crescent at 3:25 pm EDT. The horns were approximately at 1:00 and 4:00 O'clock (1:00;2:30;4:00). I could not see the crescent with naked eye, however. At that time, the sky was partly cloudy. Later in the evening, the sky became more cloudy which prevented me from seeing the crescent.
