On Thursday, Nov 8th, 2018: Hilal of Rabii El-Awwal was Obscured. I started my attempt to observe the Hilal of Rabii I at apparent Sunset (17:03) to no avail. There were thick clouds covering about 6 over the horizon, and they persisted well after I returned from Maghreb prayers. Best time was 17:27. Brightness calculations indicated that it the Hilal of width 19.8" arcseconds could have a chance of appearing, had the temperature and relative humidity been 10C, and 20% or below, respectively. However, at the prevailing conditions of 25C temperature, 1014mB pressure, and ~51% relative humidity, it would be below the threshold of visiblity. Direct observation was inconclusive, of course, due to the cloud cover over the western horizon (covering many degrees around the expected Azimuth of 248).
