Al urjoonul qadeem of Dhul-Qi'dah 1443: June 28 & June 27, 2022

MCW member AR Sugeng Riyadi, Surakarta, Java reported: The old crescent of Zulqi'dah 1443 AH was sighted and captured on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 from Rowasiya Observatory at Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia. The sky was clear.

New Crescent Moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1443:
The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on June 29, 2022 (Wednesday) at 2:52 UT.

On June 29, the moon may be seen by binoculars in Caribbean Islands, USA and Central America. On June 29 it can be seen easily in Hawaii. On June 30, it can be seen in almost the whole world (See visibility curves).

The earliest reported sighting of the new crescent was on Wednesday, June 29 2022 from Bridgetown, Barbados.

June 29, 2022 (Wednesday):

  • Afghanistan:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Engr M Ibrahim Mayar from Kabul reported: Today Wedneesday, 29 June 2022,upon the sunset from 7:10 till 7: 30 PM local time, I attempt to see the Zulheja new moon from my Residence in Kabul city. However, the sky was clear, I was unable to see the new moon.

  • Albania:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Ebu Xhunejd (Ledjo Hyka) from Albania reported: We tried to watch the new moon of dhul hijah, but we can not sighted it. We were some groups around albania, but no one sighted the new moon. We tried with binoculars too, but the sky was fogie at the west.

  • Barbados:

    1. Seen: MCW member Mohammed Patel from Bridgetown reported: I tried to see Hilal from Jama Masjid in Bridgetown, Barbados on Wednesday, 29th June 2022. Crescent WAS SEEN (in the region). Therefore we will have 29 days of Dhul- Qidah. The 1st of Dhul-Hijjah will be on Thursday 30th June, 2022.

  • Canada:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Shahid Rashid from Mississauga Ontaio reported: No Seen. I tried to sight the moon from sunset at 9:03 and for about 35 minutes. I also used binoculars. The moonset was at 10:02PM which gave me good amount of time for moon above horizon after sunset. I was not able to see the moon.

  • Chile:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Muhammad Sohail from Iquique reported: Reporting from Coquimbo the City of Chile, New moon is not sighted. The sky was quite clear. The month of Zulhaja will start on Friday July 1, 2022.

  • Ghana:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Malik Salifu Shaban from Garu Bawku reported: The crescent for Dhul-Hijja could not be seen here in Garu in the Upper East Region of Ghana today June 29 2022 due to heavy clouds that formed the whole day.

  • Guyana:

    1. Seen: MCW member Mansoor Baksh from Demerara, Essequibo reported: The new moon for Zul Hijja was seen in Guyana today Wednesday, 29th June, 2022. It was thus announced that Eid ul Adha will be observed on Saturday, July 9, 2022.

  • Indonesia:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member AR Sugeng Riyadi from Rowasiya Observatory reported: The new crescent of Dzulhijjah 1443 AH was not seen even by telescope due to low altitude of the hilal and clouds, on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from Assalaam Observatory at PPMI Assalaam, Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia. The west horizon was very clear with thin cloudy.
      According to the neo-mabims criterion (alt 3� and elongation 6� 24') the Itsbat Coucil by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia declare that the 1st of Dzulhijjah 1443 AH will start on Friday, July 01, 2022. Eid-al-Adha will be on Sunday, July 10, 2022.

  • Kenya:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Muhammad A Said from Mombasa reported: Today 29th June 2022 /29th Dhul-Qa'ada 1443.We were not able to see the crescent for Dhul-Hijjah.Reports from all East African countries are negative. So Saturday 1st of July will be 1st of Dhul Hijjah and Sunday 10th of July will be Idd-ul Adh-ha.

  • Spain:

    1. Seen: MCW member Gabriel Jairod�n Riaza from Madrid reported: Announced: Islamic Commission of Spain announces that Thursday, 30 June, is the first day of the month Dhu�l-Hijjah 1443. Friday, 8 July, is Arafah Day, and Eid ul-Adha is Saturday, 9 July 2022. Announcement:
      It follows sighting anywhere from Fiji until Canary Islands, and especially from Saudi Arabia.

  • Tanzania:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Hamza Rijal from Tiny Island of Zanzibar reported: On June 29, 2022, the crescent moon was not sighted anywhere in tiny island of Zanzibar, therefore 30th June Thursday will complete the 30th of Dhulqa'da and 1st July, Friday will be the First day of Dhul hijjah 1443 AH.

  • UK:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Shakil Qureshi, from Cardiff reported: On 29th Dhul-Qai'Dah 1443 / 29th June 2022, moon was Not Seen. I Remained in my observation position in Cardiff, United Kingdom, from sunset (21:37) until moonset (22:30) but there was no sight of the moon. There was also total cloud cover.

    2. Not Seen: Wifaqul Ulama Administrator of Britain reported: Wifaq ul Ulama UK has announced Eid ul Azha on 10 July as moon was not sighted in UK or countries east of UK on Wednesday.

  • USA:

    1. Seen: MCW member Norm Vargas from Mount Wilson CA reported: The crescent moon was seen tonight, June 29, 2022, from Mount Wilson Observatory, California. It was first seen with 10x42 binoculars at 8:21 pm at an altitude of 7.2 degrees and photographed at 8:31 with a 300mm lens. The horns were at the 3:30 and 7:30 positions. The arc was continuous, but with two bright areas seen in an 80mm spotting scope. It was observed and photographed until 8:37 pm as it settled close to some foreground trees. The crescent was never easy to see. I was barely able to detect it against the orange sky with the naked eye. The weather conditions were 69� F and 47% humidity. The sky was clear of clouds, but slightly hazy. Local sunset was 8:08 pm and moonset was 9:07.

    2. Seen: MCW member Mirza Shahid Basravi from Irvine CA reported: On June 29, 2022 sighting of the moon was possible with bicoculars only along with another brother Qasim Mirza in Anaheim California.

    3. Seen: MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: This evening (Wednesday, June 29, 2022), the crescent moon was sighted in Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37� 15' 40" N, Lng: 80� 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters). I arrived at my sighting location at 8:36 pm EDT (apparent sunset: 8:36 pm). The western horizon was partly cloudy and very hazy. Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I started looking for the crescent. The first binocular sighting was at around 9:12 pm. The crescent was very thin; while I could follow it for several minutes, I was unable to see it with naked eye with my brief attempts. The binocular sighting continued till shortly before 9:30 pm when the crescent was approaching the horizon. By the time I relocated to a close by spot to avoid tree interference, I could not see it further. Perhaps it disappeared behind the distant mountains (actual moonset: 9:47 pm). The horns were approximately at 3:00 and 7:00 O'clock (3:00;5:00;7:00). I left the site at 9:38 pm. At 9:15 pm, the temperature, dew point, relative humidity, and pressure were 76 F, 66 F, 71%, and 30.31 in, respectively.

    4. Not Seen: MCW member Joynal Abedin from Buffalo NY reported: The zilhajj moon wasn�t sighted in Buffalo today Wednesday 29th of june 2022, the horizon was cloudy, some part of clear, it�s tough to see naked eye . Today sunset 8:58 pm, moon direction 311.89NW Moon altitude-4.67� moonset today-9:56 pm I waited for clear clouds of sky but it�s not visible to see the moon month of ZILHAJJ, So, our masjid community decide eid ul adha july 10th 2022 by Sunday

Not Seen: Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announced: The crescent committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America would like to state that for those who are content with the above-mentioned sightings and are located in the orange curve in this diagram from Charlotte (NC), going toward St. Louis (MO), Omaha (NE), to Seattle (WA), Thursday, June 30th, 2022 will be the first day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, 1443 A.H.
      For the rest of North America, Friday, July 1st, will be the first day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah.

    6. Seen: MCW member Mohamedraza H.Janmohamed from Sanford FL reported: The Moonsighting Sub-committee wishes to advise that sighting reports were received from San Diego, California for Wednesday, June 29, 2022.
      Based on these reports and since Florida is part of the curve � we hereunder revise the date[s] for the month of Dhulhijjah 1443 AH.
      Therefore the 1st Day of Mahe Dhulhijjah, 1443 AH is established as THURSDAY, JUNE 30, 2022

  • Afghanistan:

    1. Seen: MCW member Engr M Ibrahim Mayar from Kabul reported: Today, June the 30th,2022, after sunset at 7:30 Oclock PM local time, I clearly could see with naked eyes the new crescent/ moon of Zulhijjah from my residence in Kabul city. The sky was clear and the moon horns orientation was from 3:00 to 9:00 O'clock.

  • Australia:

    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, President of Qubaa association of Western Sydney, NSW reported: Today (Thursday) 30th of June 2022, the Hilal of Dhul Hijjah has been sighted in Alice springs. Hence, the month of Dhul Hijjah will commence from Friday, 1st of July 2022.

  • Canada:

    1. Seen: MCW member Yonus Sahadat from Vancouver, British Columbia reported: I went to watch the Hilal yesterday June 29 but it was cloudy. Today, June 30, Alhamdullelah, it was clear and I could sight the moon. I went to Knight Bridge that connects Vancouver to Richmond. I was there around 9:20 pm as I recall. I waited for around 10 mins and the moon appeared at 2 o�clock and 7 o�clock. I waited for 10-15 mins for it to be visible in camera to take the pictures (not used here).

  • China:

    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Musa�Minhai from Linxia Gansu Province reported: On June 30,2022 the new Crescent has been sighted with naked eye in China. I shooted some pictures used by Nikon P900. ( Latitude35�35'N, Longitude 103�11'E ), sunset time is 20:30, the altitude of moon is 7�, the azimuth is 286�, The Illumination was about 2%.

  • Egypt:

    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Hisham M. Hamed from Cairo reported: Last night, Wed. Jun 29th, the crescent width observed from Cairo or anywhere in its vicinity was less than 7 arcseconds, at apparent sunset (19:00). The apparent arc of vision was only around 7�. The apparent lunar altitude was less than 3� at best time (19:17). Such conditions do not allow a naked eye sighting at near sea-level elevations. tonight Thursday, June 30th, I arrived at my observation point at the 6. October Shooting club (30.00�N, 30.948�E) some 15 minutes before apparent sunset (19:01). There was no sign of the Moon, until I left for Maghreb prayers (19:06). It did not appear until after Maghreb prayers. It first appeared at ~19:23:05. It was still visible at 19:46, the time of writing. The temperature, pressure and relative humidity were 32�C, 993.2 mb, and 38%, respectively.

    1. Seen: MCW member Rasheed Usman, from Kozhikode, Kerala reported: The hilal of Dulhijjah 1443 has been sighted at multiple locations in Trivandrum District today 30th June evening and accordingly Eidul Azha will be on Sunday 10th of July 2022.

    2. Seen: MCW member Rasheed Usman, from Kozhikode, Kerala reported: The hilal of Dulhijjah 1443 has been sighted at various places in Tamil Nadu today Thursday evening 30th June 2022, as per the Press Release by Chief Qazi of Tamilnadu.

    3. Seen: MCW member Zaid Duch from Nadiad, Gujrat reported: The crescent moon (Hilal) of Dhul Hijjah 1443 has been sighted today on Thursday, 30th of June 2022 (29 Dhul Qadah 1443); at location Varnora, Bhuj, Gujarat, India. The Crescent moon was sighted with a naked eye at 20:02.

  • Indonesia:

    1. Seen: MCW member Nissar Ahmad Ramtoola from Port Louis reported: The new moon was sighted tonight Thursday 30 June 2022 in many localities in Mauritius. First reported Visibility was from Bain des Dames @ 6.02pm. Hence Friday 1st July 2022 will be the 1st day of Zil Hajj 1443. Insha Allah Eid Ul Adha will be celebrated on Sunday 10 July 2022.

  • South Africa:

    1. Seen: MCW member Rashid Motala from Durban reported: On the evening of Thursday 30 June 2022, the Hilaal WAS sighted in South Africa. Therefore Zul Hijjah 1443 will commence on Friday, 1 July 2022 in South Africa.

    2. Seen: MCW member Keeka, Mohamed Iqbal, Pretoria reported: The moon marking the start of Zul Hijjah 1443 was sighted this evening, Thursday 30th June 2022. The month of Zul Hijjah 1443 thus begins after Maghrib this evening.

  • Sri Lanka:

    1. Seen: MCW member Nular Bary from Colombo reported: Today 29th of Dhul_Quidha (June 30, 2022) evening the new Moon of Dhul_Hijjah 1443 been sighted in many places in the country (Sri Lanka). Hence, the Colombo Grand Mosque Hilal Committee declared that the first day of Dhul_Hijjah will start on Friday, 1st of July 2022 InShaAllah. The Sri Lankan Muslims will be celebrating Eid_Ul_Adha on 10th of July 2022 (Sunday) in Sri Lanka.
