Al urjoonul qadeem of Dhul-Qi'dah 1444: June 18 & June 17, 2023

  • USA:

    1. Waning moon Seen: MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: This morning (Friday, June 16, 2023), the waning crescent moon was sighted in Blacksburg, VA. I was at my sighting location by 5:13 am EST (moonrise: 4:25 am). The eastern horizon was partly cloudy with too much haze. Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I started looking for the crescent. My first binocular sighting of the crescent moon was at 5:15 am. Then I saw it with the naked eye. The horns were approximately at 5:30 and 9:30 O'clock (5:30;7:30;9:30). I left the area at 5:43 am (sunrise: 5:54 am). At 5:35 am, the temperature, dew point, relative humidity, and pressure were 58.0 F, 58.0 F, 100%, and 29.85 in, respectively.



      New Crescent Moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1444:
      The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on June 18, 2023 (Sunday) at 4:37 UT.
      On June 18, the moon may be seen in USA only. On June 19, it can be seen with difficulty in Australia, but easily everywhere else (See visibility curves).

      The earliest reported sighting of the new crescent was on June 18 from Mount Wilson, California, USA.

  • Albania:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Ebu Xhunejd (Ledjo Hyka) from Tirana reported: We couldn't sight the new moon, also in Kosovo it wasn't sighted. So the 1 Dhul Hijjas is on 20 June and the Eid Al Adha is on 29 June.

  • Barbados:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Ebu Xhunejd (Ledjo Hyka) from Tirana reported: Mohammed Patel reporting from Jama Masjid in Bridgetown, Barbados on Sunday 18th June 2023. Crescent was NOT SEEN, Locally or in the Region. Therefore, we will have 30 days of Dhul- Qi'dah. The 1st day of Dhul-Hijjah will be on Tuesday 20th June,2023.

  • Chile:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Muhammad Sohail from Iquique reported: On June 18, the new moon of zul hijjah is not seen any where in Chile, so the month will start on June 20, 2023 and Eid ul adha will be celebrated on Thursday June 29, 2023.

  • India:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Rasheed Usman, Kozhikode, Kerala reported: There are no reports of sighting of hilal of Dulhijjah 1444 AH today evening 18th June 2023 in the State of Kerala India. Qazis in the State declared 20th June Tuesday as Dulhijjah 1, and Eidul Adh'ha on Thursday 29th June 2023.

    2. Reported: IRSHAD SAIT N. M., President HiJRI COMMITTEE of INDIA reported: Hijri Committee of India will be celebrating Eid ul Adha 1444 on Wednesday, 28th June 2023. In sha Allaah.

  • Kenya:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Muhammad A Said from Mombasa reported: Muhammad Abubakar said from Mombasa, Kenya. Sunday the 18th of June 2023 /29th of Dhul Qa'adah 1444 AH. The weather was slightly cloudy in the western horizon and We were not able to see the crescent. Also Tanzania and Zanzibar reported a negative sighting. East Africa will celebrate IDD UL ADH-HA on Thursday the 29th of June 2023.

  • Lebanon:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Dr. Hadi Jaafar from Beirut reported: The cresent for Dul hijjah (Sun Jun 18 2023 29 Dul Qaddah) was not spotted in Lebanon. Tomorrow (Mon Jun 19 2023) is 30 Dul Qaddah and (Tue Jun 20 2023) is 1 Dul hijjah

  • Morocco:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Zakaria Guelzim from Bouznika reported: This is to inform you that I tried to sight the Hilal of Thul-Hijja after Maghrib of Sunday, June 18, 2023 in Rabat Morocco without success. The Hilal was not sighted in any city of Morocco by my friends experienced Hilal observers.
      In a press release, the ministry indicated that the lunar crescent announcing the month of Dou Al Hijja 1444 was not observed on Sunday evening (June 18). As a result, the month of Dou Al Qiida 1444 H will have counted 30 days and the 1st Dou Al Hijja will be Tuesday, June 20, 2023, and Eid Al Adha will therefore be celebrated on 10 Dou Al Hijja 1443 corresponding to June 29, 2023.

  • Saudi Arabia:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Abdul Kadir Mulla from Jeddah reported: On Jnue 18, Sunday, Moon was not sighted in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

  • USA:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: This evening (Sunday, June 18, 2023), the crescent moon was not sighted in Blacksburg, VA. A friend of mine and I arrived at our sighting location at 8:02 pm EDT (sunset: 8:41 pm). The western horizon was partly cloudy and extremely hazy. Even before sunset using two pairs of binoculars (7X50 and 10X50), we started scanning the areas where the moon was expected to be according to the Stellarium software. In hope of seeing the crescent in the openings and behind the haze, we continued our observations on and off till 9:21 pm (moonset: 9:39 pm). By that time the moon was to be under clouds hugging the horizon.
    2. Seen: On June 18, I, Zohair Zaidi along with Abulhassan Mohsin saw the moon with naked eye in Phoenix from a mountain starting from 8:03pm when it was 6 degrees high with horns from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock and we watched it until 8:33pm when it was less than a degree above horizon.
    3. Not Seen: MCW member Mohamedraza H.Janmohamed from Sanford FL reported: The Moon-sighting Sub-committee wishes to inform the community that the new crescent for the month was NOT sighted on Sunday, June 18, 2023. Therefore upon completion of 30 days - the 1st Day of Mahe Dhulhijjah, 1443 AH is established as TUESDAY, JUNE 20, 2023
    4. Seen: MCW member Norm Vargas from Mount Wilson CA reported: The crescent moon was sighted by 10x42 binoculars from Mount Wilson, California at 8:38 pm. It was also seen with the naked eye at this time. The sky was mostly clear but there was a noticeable haze or thin clouds to the west and the sky was tinted purple as well. The horns were at the 3:30 to 8 o'clock positions. I viewed it through some foreground trees and was not able to get a picture. The temperature was 56� F and the humidity was 60%.

Not Seen: MCW member Khalil Homafar from Houston TX reported: This evening (Sunday, June 18, 2023), due to clouds the horizon was not clear enough to see the crescent in Houston,The moon was seen today (Monday) 19th June, 2023 in two locations of Guyana. It was seen in Lethem between 6:29 and 6:39 pm by Bro. Shahab Khan and in Annai, Region No. 9 by Bro. Neil Bacchus. The sky passing clouds.
    6. Not Seen: MCW member Mirza Shahid Basravi from Irvine CA reported: I, along with Qasim Mirza were unable to sight the new crescent on June 18, 2023 after sunset at 8:04 pm. There were thick clouds in the western sky which made it impossible to sight the crescent as per the following local data.
    7. Not Seen: MCW member Imam Hamid Quraishi, Imam of Islamic Center of Winona (ICW), Winona MN reported: We were unable to see the moon due to cloudy sky. Therefore, based on moon sighting information from other states, we are going to have eid on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
    8. Not Seen: Mr Rehan Safiullah, Houston, TX reported: We were unable to see the crescent of the new moon crescent on the 29th of Dhul Qa'dah 1444 AH (Sunday, June 18, 2023) in the Houston, TX area. We arrived at Brays Bayou park just after sunset. We stayed until moonset but were unable to see the crescent--principally because of clouds on the horizon. We had a Nikon Z 6ii camera and binoculars (10x42) but didn�t see the crescent with even with telescope.

Seen: MCW member Mohamedraza H.Janmohamed from Sanford FL reported: The Moon-sighting Sub-committee wishes to inform the community that based on the sighting of the new crescent in Phoenix, AZ and San Diego, CA on Sunday, June 18, 2023. The 1st Day of Dhulhijjah, 1443 AH is established as MONDAY, JUNE 19, 2023.

Seen: MCW member Dr. Afifi al-Akiti reported: We sighted the new moon on 18 june 2023 in california near montgomery hill observatory from a hill after sunset. 5 of us (myself, my 2 sons, my dayghter and my wife, all pubescant and mukallaf) first located it with binoculars and then 3 of us, myself and my 16 years old don an daughter sighted it by naked eye from approximately 20.55 until 21.15 above west horizon. Sighting by naked eye was better than picture taken by iphone.
    11. Seen: MCW member Shahnoor Syed, On Behalf of Mahdavia Ruiyat e Hilal of Chicago, IL reported: On the 29th of ZulQadh - Sunday, June18, 2023 we have received naked eye moon sighting reports from multiple locations across the states of Texas, Arizona and California. As such the first day of ZilHajj will be on Monday, June19, 2023 in the USA.

    • Afghanistan:

      1. Seen: MCW member Engr M Ibrahim Mayar from Kabul reported: Today, Monday 19 of June 2023, after sunset at 7:30 O'clock local time, the Zulheja crescent was sighted with naked eyes to 116� NW, Altitude 10.1�, the orientation of the crescent was from 2 to 8 Oclock, from my resident. However, the Kabul western sky was rather hazy.

    • Australia:

      1. Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, President of Qubaa association of Western Sydney, NSW reported: Today (Monday) 19th of June 2023, the Hilal of Dhul Hijjah has been sighted in Townsville and Mareeba (QLD). Hence, according to the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (?), the month of Dhul Hijjah will commence from Tuesday, 20th of June 2023. Eid -ul- Adhaa will be celebrated on Thursday 29th of June 2023.
      2. Not Seen: MCW member Abul Qasim Rizvi, Imam Juma Melbourne reported: On June 19, Moon has not been sighted in Eastern Australia. Therefore, Tuesday 20th June 2023 will be 30th Dhul Qadah 1444 Hijri. 1st Dhul Hijjah 1444 AH will be on Wednesday 21st June 2023.

    • Canada:

      1. Seen: MCW member HiMY SYeD from Vancouver, British Columbia reported: After praying Maghrib in Brampton, Ontario, on June 19, I went searching for the Crescent Moon of Dhul Hijjah. Yesterday night, Sunday June 18 2023, The Hilal Council of Canada had [already] accepted a Positive Moonsighting Report from Texas. Tonight, Monday June 19 2023, We had Hazy and Partly Cloudy sky above the Toronto Metropolitan Area. I looked and searched through the haze for about ten minutes. Alhumdulillah I finally saw the Crescent in-between the clouds.

    • Egypt:

      1. Seen: MCW member Dr Hisham M. Hamed from Cairo reported: Last night, Monday, June 19, 2023, I attempted to observe the Moon from Giza, Egypt. Apparent Sunset was at 19:59, and the Hilal first appeared at 20:20 (UT+3, Egyptian Summer Time). The horns were at 4 O'clock and 7 O'clock. It was faint. Venus on the other hand was very bright.

      1. Seen: MCW member Mansoor Baksh from Demerara, Essequibo reported: The moon was seen today (Monday) 19th June, 2023 in two locations of Guyana. It was seen in Lethem between 6:29 and 6:39 pm by Bro. Shahab Khan and in Annai, Region No. 9 by Bro. Neil Bacchus .

      1. Not Seen: MCW member Md Ohidullah from Baganpara, West Bengal reported: Today's evening, June 19, the Crescent moon of Zul-Hijja 1444AH has been sighted in West Bengal of India. Tomorrow Tuesday 20th June 2023 will be start the First day of Zul-Hijja 1444 AH. IN�SHA�ALLAH Eid-ul-Adhaa will be celebrated on Thursday 29th of June 2023.
      2. Seen: MCW member Zaid Duch from Gujrat reported: I, Zaid Duch, sighted the crescent moon (Hilal) of 1st day of Dhul Hijjah 1444; today on Monday, 19th of June 2023 (29 Dhul Qadah 1444); at location Navi Masjid,Nadiad,Gujarat, India. The Crescent moon was first sighted at 19:42 with binocular and later sighted with naked eye at 19:55. Eid ul Adha will be celebrated on 29/06/2023, Thursday InshaAllah.

    • Lebanon:

      1. Seen: MCW member Eman Kobaissi from Beirut reported: Seen: Today, from Tyre, Lebanon (Mon Jun 19 2023) I saw the cresent of Dul hijjah before 7:55 PM. The weather was 24 C. The moon was extremely thin. Sunset was at 7:51 PM. Today is 30 Dul Qaddah. Eid Al adha is on 29-6-2023 while the start of Dul hijjah is on Tue Jun 20 2023.
      2. Seen: MCW member Moussa Khalife from Beirut reported: Today is Monday 19th of June 2023 the moon has been sighted in Lebanon. So tomorrow Tuesday 20th of June is the 1st of zul hijjah 1444H.

    • Mauritius:

      1. Not Seen: Mr Ahaad Choychun from Port Louis reported: The crescent moon has not been seen in Mauritius tonight Monday June 19, 2023 so Tuesday June 20, 2023 will be the 30th day of Zil Qadh 1444 and Wednesday June 21, 2023 will be the 1st day of Zil Hadj 1444. Eid Ul Adha will be celebrated on Friday 30 June 2023

      1. Not Seen: MCW member Abid Jafery from Auckland reported: There have been no sightings in New Zealand and Fiji On June 19 (29 Dhul-Qi'dah). Therefore, Tuesday 20th June 2023 will be 30th Dhul-Qi'dah 1444 Hijri. 1st Dhul-Hijjah 1444 will be on Wednesday 21st June 2023 InshaAllah.

      1. Seen: MCW member Umair Mirza from Lahore reported: On Monday, 19 June 2023, at Lahore, Pakistan. I sighted the crescent (Hilal) of Dhul-Hijjah 1444 at 19:42:00. The Crescent moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1444 AH was sighted with a naked eye at my place, near Shalimar Gardens, Lahore, Pakistan. The age of New Moon was 34 hours First of Dhul-Hijjah 1444 will be on Tuesday, 20 June 2023.

      1. Seen: MCW member Rashid Motala from Durban reported: On the evening of Monday 19 June 2023, the Hilaal WAS sighted in South Africa. Therefore Zul Hijjah 1444 will commence on Tuesday, 20 June 2023 in South Africa.

    • Sri Lanka:

      1. Seen: MCW member Nular Bary from Borella reported: Today 29th.of Dul-Qidah (19/06/23) evening, the western sky was bit cloudy and the sunset was at 6:28pm in Colombo, The new Moon was sighted island wide this evening and the Holy Month of Dul-Hijjah will start on 20TH of June 2023 �InShaAllah� The Eid-Dul Aldha will be on 29th.of June Thursday 2023

    • Spain:

      1. Announced: MCW member Gabriel Jairod�n Riaza from Madrid reported: Islamic Commission of Spain announces that Monday, 19 June, is the first day of the month Dhu�l-Hijjah 1444. Tuesday, 27 June, is Arafah Day, and Eid ul-Adha is Wednesday, 28 June 2023.
        Announcement:
        It follows sighting anywhere from Fiji (180 degrees) until Canary Islands (-18 degrees), and especially from Saudi Arabia.

      1. Seen: MCW member Nazish Ishaque from Bradford reported: On June 19, 2023 the Hilal was seen in Bradford. The orientation of Hilal was 6-12 O'Clock.
