With special preparation, I (Khalid Shaukat) and my 16 year old son saw it with the binocular in Washignton DC metropolitan area on September 10, 1999. We could barely see it with the naked eye for a few moments. In Utah, Texas, Arizona and California, it was seen easily with the naked eye. It was just as shown by visibility curves.

On October 28 it was seen in most countries around the world, all the way to USA. It was exactly as shown by the visibility map.
