On Nov 10th, I went to my usual vantage spot in Irvine, California, where I could see the horizon down to almost 0°. There was a heavy haze along the horizon, which I thought could be overcome by my 7 x 35 binoculars, had the brilliance of the crescent been worthy enough. I went there about 10 minutes before Sunset, which happened at 4:49 p.m. local time by my cell phone clock. I scanned the lower horizon between 0° and 20° to the south of the Sunset point. I also took several pictures at x12 zoom with my 5 mega pixel digital camera, mounted on a tripod, for later investigation on the computer. I was there, at the location until 5:15 p.m., but I was unable to spot the crescent.
