declared that Ramadan will begin on Thursday, 13 September 2007. We are expecting Ramadan
to begin the earliest in the UK on Thursday, subject to positive sightings anywhere East of the UK tomorrow, by which time I will make another report.

On Wednesday I sighted it using a finderscope on the Meade LX200 at just 1 minute prior to sunset. It was raining with CB's around the western horizon half an hour before sunset, that helped to clear pollution in the area. The slender crescent was apparent, at sunset time the clouds covered the moon."
Abdul hameed ali haji (MCW 1 - 8/13/07), from Bahrain, reported: Not Seen
On September 12, the new crescent moon was not seen in Bahrain; it was cloudy.
Hussain Khushaish (MCW member) from Kuwait, reported: Not Seen
In Kuwait on Wednesday 12 Sep 2007 I & A group of 65 persons went to Kabed desert to see the crescent but the crescent was not seen even with 20*60 binoculars. The sun disc disappeared at 17:48 thats 10 minutes before our local sunset. The western horizon was hazy up to 8 degrees with fine dust and thats why we did not align our 8" telescope the previous night. I have a request from Sighting members please mention your local sunset time and when did the sun disappeared, when the crescent was seen, till when weather with naked eyes or with binoculars or telescope.
Abbas Ahmadian from Esfahan, Iran, reported: Seen by telescope only
Seen at 18:29 using optic:14" meade lx200gps telescop; height:3350 meter; 60 kilometer east to Esfahan. Camera Picture taken by canon 400d digital camera was sent to Moonsighting.com
AliReza Mehrani (MCW member) from Fereydan, Esfahan, Iran, reported: Seen by 15x80 Binoculars only
Date: Sep 12, 2007 Location: Fereydan, Esfahan, Iran (33:16N 50:10E)
Elevation: 2600 meters from sea level.
Sunset (at sea level): 18:20:39 LT
Sunset (observed): 18:17 LT
Crescent first observed thru 15x80 binoculars at 18:22:10 LT
Two years ago, I saw the crescent of Dhul-Qi'dah 1426 (December 2, 2005) in the same location. Although, this year, the crescent of Ramadan was very similar to the 1426 Dhul-Qi'dah crescent, but it was thinner and also 0.5° altitude less at the sunset.
By a theodolite camera, I found the crescent situation at 18:05 LT, and waited for the observation time. At 18:05 I started the observation and every 5 minutes by the theodolite, I was controlling the crescent direction. From 18:05 to 18:22, I saw a flash in the view field. For some seconds it repeated but without any fixed image. I couldn't be satisfied that I have observed the crescent. It seemed to be a curved, but because of the very appearance, I changed my mind for observing and it disappeared.
The crescent had mixed in the thin dust. It was just some seconds after 18:22, that I recognized a flash again in the view field center. After some seconds, the mentioned flash became a clear and permanent image from a thin short arc. The image started flashing but it became fix again for a longer time. I became sure that this arc is the crescent and so surprised because of the arc length shortness.
When the crescent started flashing, I couldn't see it any more. Although I continued the observation until the crescent sinked in the middle part of the thick dust, but it was futile.
Jaffer Dharamsi reported: Seen by telescope only
On Wednseday there was a report from Iran from Mr. Reza Amirzadeh who said: "I saw Ramadan Crescent this Day! First time at 15:33? (time questionable, even if it was UT) with Mr.Mahamad Ghareh Gozli in TV station site (Bardsir-Kerman-Iran) using 8" telescope, and it was seen by telescope only.
The sighting was before sunset.
Note from Moonsighting.com: Something is wrong in Mr. Amirzadeh's report that reached Moonsighting.com. It says the sighting was done at Kerman at 15:33. If it was local time it is 2 hours 19 minutes before sunset. We calculated sunset at 17:52. If 15:33 was UT, then local time would be 19:03, which means the moon had set, way before that. So, this report is confusing.
Zulfiqar Anwer Rashid from Aden, Yemen, reported: Not Seen
On Sep 12, the sky in all over Yemen was cloudy and it was not possible at all to sight the crescent. I am now in Hadramout, eastern part of Yemen

(further to the west by another 350 Km approx.), Shuaib Saleem AbdulRazzak witnessed the same weather that is unfavorable for crescent sighting.

I had struggle to sight the Hilal in 2 spots; I failed and I was not sure if there was any chance of sighting. When news about the
visibilty reached me I had recieved number of calls from my freinds to justfy it, but I reply to them anything can happen as long that Hilal was seen in the Southern part of Tanzania mainland and in Malindi Kenya we ought to abide with it even though chance of visibilty in our area was very slim.

Muhammad Afifi al-Akiti (MCW member) from Oxford, UK, reported: Seen in East of UK (S. Africa)
I am travelling and unable to perform the obligatory sighting today for the UK on 29 Sha'ban or Wednesday, 12th of September. However, I have received news that sighting is not possible in Oxford because the horizon there is overcast. Nevertheless, news of positive sightings to the East of UK today, such as in South Africa, despite
not being able to sight locally in the UK, makes it sufficient for those in the UK to establish the month of Ramadan [thubut al-hilal] for the UK to be tomorrow, Thursday, the 13th of September, with the Tarawih prayers beginning tonight after Isha. This is by following the default rule [dabit] in Islamic Law in this matter that whenever it is known that the crescent has been positively sighted in the East, local sighting inevitably follows, but not the other way round [mata hasalati r-ru'yatu fi l-sharqi lazima ru'yatuhu fi l-gharbi wa la-'aks]. Ramadan Karim & may Allah accept our fasts and prayers during this blessed month!
Muhammed Haseeb (MCW member) from Guyana, reported: Seen
The moon was seen in Guyana (East Coast of Berbice) today 12th Sept.
Muhammad Hafiz (MCW member) from Guyana, reported: Seen by others
Myself and the members of Rose Hall Town Masjid and Islamic Center tried to observe the Hilaal after sunset on Wednesday, 12th September, 2007 in Guyana. Due to rainy clouds on the horizon, Hilaal observation was made impossible. However, the Hilaal was seen in other Muslims communities such as (# 71 Village etc) and the Central Islamic Organization of Guyana has also confirmed sighting in Guyana via TV on the 12th of September, 2007, thus as predicted by the visibility curve once more Ramadan fast begins for the majority of Muslims in Guyana on Thursday.

HiMY SYeD (MCW member) and Karen Sun from Toronto, Canada, reported: Not Seen
Myself and Karen Sun just finished looking for the Ramadan moon from an elevated location in downtown Toronto. The sky is three fourths overcast and it would be very difficult to spot the Hilal. We stood at the same spot as last year when we sighted the moon on the 2nd of Ramadan. We could not see it this year due to the Clouds. Much of Toronto is going by calculations to determine Ramadan this year, and InshAllah, Tomorrow, Thursday September 13, 2007 will be the first of Ramadan of many of us here. Ramadan Kareem and Salam.

I am pleased to report that the crescent moon was sighted from Chino Valley, Arizona this evening of September 12. Solid binoculars observation commenced at 1851 MST and continued to 1905:35 when the upper tine of the crescent slid below the ridge line. The arc extended from 2:30 to 5:30 clockwise At all times the crescent was a low contrast object. At no time was the crescent visible to the naked eye.

I was able to spot the new crescent with my 7 X 35 binoculars around 7:05 PM. First my neighbor, John, came by to check what I was so enthusiastic about. After I spotted the Crescent I handed him the binoculars. He was very amazed and excited too since it was going down fast and he had never seen such a faint crescent. Then I called my wife, Anjum, to come to the viewing location to witness the sighting. All during this event, the crescent was not visible without the binoculars. The crescent arc spanned between 1:30 to 4:30, almost vertical. Some time between 7:15 PM and 7:20 PM the crescent disappeared behind the haze.
